in many sports and in some forms of work, such
as construction and firefighting. But did you know that
muscular fitness can also contribute substantially to
➤➤ Training for muscular fitness increases your
muscle mass, which in turn burns fat.
➤➤ Exercises that improve your muscular fitness
help you avoid osteoporosis, the crippling bone
demineralization that afflicts many older people.

you may be able to avoid low-back problems and
repetitive strain injuries.
➤➤ Good muscular fitness maximizes your chance for
independence and mobility in your later years.
Muscular fitness consists of three basics: strength, muscular
endurance, and flexibility. Other elements include
power, agility, balance, and coordination. As with most

fool you into waiting—the pleasures and rewards of muscular
fitness are worth pursuing as soon
as possible. Begin now and you will

your tummy is flatter and
your muscles firmer, and
that you feel better about
yourself and your life.
